Chicago Sister Cities Partners Visit After School Matters

On June 21, we hosted a delegation of social service professionals from eight of Chicago’s sister cities – Casablanca, Durban, Galway, Hamburg, Kyiv, Osaka, Paris, and Shanghai – at our Gately Park facility to share After School Matters’ work and discuss challenges faced by youth today and how we can support them.

The visit was part of the ongoing social services exchange with Chicago’s sister cities around the world. These exchanges allow participants to discover and share with their colleagues the many ways cities have developed for approaching and addressing shared social service challenges.

We were happy to share ASM’s model of providing Chicago teens with safe and supportive environments in which to learn and create, while also providing them with mental health and financial supports

The delegation visited with teens exploring a range of content areas, from visual and performing arts to STEM. Teens in the Emergency Medical Responders program shared their aspirations to pursue medical careers, and the Les Enfants Dance teens treated the guests to some exciting new choreography. Our talented culinary teens prepared a variety of amazing desserts to finish the visit.

We were gratified to hear from the delegates the inspiration they took from our programs and our teens. Here’s to seeing similar youth programs in our sister cities!
