After School Matters alumni, you are part of a wide network of Chicagoans who have found their passion and careers through programs like yours. The After School Matters Alumni Network strengthens After School Matters by reconnecting former participants with one another. We encourage alumni to support each other in their efforts to discover their potential and find their future. We encourage you to join us!
Since 2017, the After School Matters Alumni Network has brought together talented and dedicated individuals to support After School Matters alumni. Through our actions, we strive to meet the following goals:
ASM Alum Semaj Thomas grew up in Englewood and participated in Gloria Hafer’s Advanced Culinary program with his brother Darrius. Both teens found a mentor and mother figure in Gloria and fell in love with the culinary arts. These programs empowered Semaj to try the restaurant world and he has worked his way up to become an acclaimed pastry chef at NoMi Chicago at the Park Hyatt.
More than 200,000 people, like Semaj have participated in an After School Matters or Gallery 37 program since 1991. Alumni of our programs have gone on to achieve great academic and professional success.
