We’re thrilled to celebrate Marquan H., a remarkable teen in our After School Matters “Be Your Own Boss” entrepreneurship program. Marquan recently received the Caleb Cares Hero Award, This award honors young people who embody exceptional leadership, kindness, and a commitment to uplifting their communities.
Marquan accepted the award from Dayna Price, founder of Caleb Cares and mother of Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams. Caleb Cares champions anti-bullying initiatives and provides mental health resources to young people. Reflecting on Caleb’s vision, Price shared, “He felt strongly about bullying because he saw it growing up. He wanted to focus on supporting young people in any way he could and recognizing those who are role models for their peers.”

The “Be Your Own Boss” program empowers teens to craft business solutions for issues they care deeply about and it provided Marquan the platform to channel his passion for positive change. His instructor nominated him for his outstanding contributions to his peers and dedication to his South Side community.
Marquan’s efforts to foster inclusivity and compassion resonate deeply with After School Matters’ mission to empower teens to make meaningful impacts in their communities.
“Thank you to Caleb Cares and After School Matters for this award,” Marquan said. “It means a lot to be recognized for my hard work and dedication.”
We’re proud to partner with Caleb Cares in supporting young leaders like Marquan who inspire us all to strive to be better.
