The first half of our Fall Session has been full of creativity, community, and celebration! Across Chicago, After School Matters teens have been showcasing their talents—from parades and performances to neighborhood events that highlight their leadership and artistry. Here’s a look at some of the amazing ways our teens have been making their mark this session.
Arts in the Dark Parade
After School Matters teens lit up Chicago’s annual Arts in the Dark Parade, bringing creativity, color, and excitement to one of the city’s most beloved fall celebrations.
More than 50 ASM teens showcased their talents before a crowd of over 100,000 spectators, representing programs across the city. Teens from Experimental Printing in the Darkroom at Gallery 37 and Bikes at Lutz connected with paradegoers through glowing lights, high-fives, and custom canvas prints. The Majorettes at Sarah E. Goode energized the crowd with a festive Halloween-themed dance, while the Authentic Arts: Fashion & Creative Design program turned heads with bold, original looks.
From music and movement to art and innovation, ASM teens once again show that creativity thrives year-round in Chicago.

Pumpkin Patch Visit
Teens from the Lutz Leadership Council and Latin Dance programs at the Lutz Center brought energy and community spirit to Alderwoman Ruth Cruz’s Fall Pumpkin Patch! They handed out popcorn, led arts and crafts, passed out pumpkins, and helped make the event a fun, seamless experience for families.
The highlight of the evening came when our Latin Dance teens wowed the crowd with vibrant folklorico and bachata performances—showcasing their talent, confidence, and everything they’ve learned this fall together.

Day of the Dead at Solorio
Solorio High School hosted a beautiful Día de los Muertos celebration that brought families, friends, and community members together to honor loved ones through music, dance, and art.
The evening showcased incredible teen talent and cultural pride. ASM’s Mariachi at Curie opened with a medley of traditional songs, followed by Ballet Folklórico dancers whose colorful performances told stories of heritage and tradition. Latinos Juntos added a modern twist with a lively hip-hop routine, while Solorio’s jazz band, Dream Team, and choir each shared heartfelt musical tributes.
Guests enjoyed delicious food, community resource tables, and the warmth of teen emcees who kept the celebration lively from start to finish.

Halloween Fun
ASM’s Advanced Drawing and Painting Portfolio instructors got into the Halloween spirit with creative costumes and festive makeup! Teens joined in the fun during a Halloween Craft Night at Gallery 37 hosted by the Intro to Printmaking program. Teens enjoyed face painting, bracelet making, spooky stickers, and coloring together.
From spirited parades to community celebrations, ASM teens continue to shine—expressing their creativity, leadership, and passion across Chicago. We can’t wait to see what they accomplish in the second half of the Fall Session!
